The Houston Independent School District News Blog recently featured its current collaboration with Brighter Bites, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and Houston’s Dogan Elementary School. This 3-pronged partnership includes a grant provided by AFT, aiming to fight food insecurity among children in Houston’s Fifth Ward neighborhood.
This March Brighter Bites benefited from a collaboration with Arizona-based Bard Valley Date Growers/Natural Delights and Texas’ own H-E-B. The program included an H-E-B promotion that highlighted the Natural Delights and Brighter Bites brands, as well as product and financial donations to Brighter Bites. The Packer covered this new initiative in its March 29 issue.
NBC-DFW, Channel 5, ran a piece around how Brighter Bites is making heathy eating possible despite the ongoing challenges of the pandemic. Brighter Bites’ mission, programming and COVID-19 adaptations were all discussed in the broadcast piece. The new Brighter Bites app, available to participating students and their families, was also highlighted.

As part of its Great Day, Great Deeds segment, Great Day Houston featured Lisa Helfman of Brighter Bites. Helfman, Brighter Bites’ founder and board chair, discussed the organization’s mission, as well as ways the Houston community could support Brighter Bites’ local programming.

Brighter Bites’ Rich Dachman was recognized as a Produce Business “Vanguard”, in the publication’s most recent issue. The award, which coincides with the publication’s 35th anniversary, honors 35 individuals who are working every day to build a better produce industry.
