Brighter Bites celebrates ten years in NYC with support of Guru Krupa Foundation
New York, NY — May 13, 2026 — Brighter Bites, a national nonprofit dedicated to improving food access and nutrition education for families, today announced a renewed investment from the Guru Krupa Foundation to support its New York City programming as the organization approaches its tenth year of operations in the region, building on a decade of impact.
This marks the foundation’s second gift to Brighter Bites since the foundation first partnered in 2024. The continued support will help sustain and expand programming as Brighter Bites approaches its 10th year serving families in New York City.
“Supporting families with consistent access to healthy food is essential to building stronger, healthier communities,” said Mukund Padmanabhan, President of the Guru Krupa Foundation. “We are proud to continue our partnership with Brighter Bites and support their work in New York City as they approach a decade of impact. Their model not only provides fresh food, but also equips families with the knowledge and resources to develop lasting habits.”
Since its launch in New York City, Brighter Bites has built strong partnerships with public schools and community-based organizations across the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. The program is designed to improve food access and nutrition outcomes for families experiencing food insecurity by combining the distribution of fresh produce with nutrition education and practical tools for healthy living.
“As we approach our tenth year in New York City, we’re seeing how consistent access to fresh food and nutrition education is changing outcomes for families,” said Rich Dachman, CEO at Brighter Bites. “Support from the Guru Krupa Foundation helps us sustain that impact year-round.”
Since launching in New York, Brighter Bites has delivered more than 4.1 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to over 25,000 families through partnerships with 39 elementary schools and summer camp sites. The program’s school-based model helps reach families where they are, making healthy food more accessible while reinforcing positive habits for children and caregivers alike.
The renewed funding will support program operations during the academic year and extend into critical summer months, when many families face increased barriers to accessing healthy food.
With this continued investment, Brighter Bites will build on nearly a decade of impact in New York City, strengthening its ability to serve families consistently and sustainably into its tenth year and beyond.
