Cornhole for a Cause Brings Las Cruces Community Together to Support Brighter Bites
On April 11th, Brighter Bites hosted Cornhole for a Cause in Las Cruces, bringing together community members, partners, and supporters for an afternoon of connection, celebration, and impact. The event welcomed 20 teams and raised critical funds to support Brighter Bites programs in New Mexico.

The competition brought plenty of energy as teams faced off throughout the evening, with bragging rights and exciting prizes on the line. The first-place team took home a $300 cash prize, while second place earned a Vitamix blender to keep the healthy recipes going at home. Third-place winners received a collection of gift cards to local restaurants, and the fourth-place team rounded out the night with two $25 gift cards to NYP Slicehouse. Thank you to GoodPop who showed their support for the community by sharing gift cards with the volunteers who helped make the event possible.

A highlight of the evening was presenting the Community Partner of the Year Award to Roadrunner Food Bank in recognition of their ongoing commitment and support of Brighter Bites families.

One of the most meaningful moments of the evening came from Brighter Bites participant Jessica Conder and her family. Jessica shared how the fresh produce and nutrition education they’ve received over the years have transformed their family’s habits.
Her son, who first participated in the program as a 2nd grader and is now in 4th grade, has experienced a noticeable shift toward healthier eating. Jessica spoke about how Brighter Bites has helped her family cook more meals at home and build lasting, healthier routines, an impact that extends far beyond the classroom.
